Please don’t take this comment the wrong way***, this was a dick move. But:

They cut in at the start of a yellow, where only the drivers in the intersection waiting are supposed to turn left. Therefore he has mildly inconvenienced 1 person (the one in the intersection already who now has an idiot in front).

The through traffic now has 1 less car in the line, and we as oppos know that one car is the difference between a red and a green. While it may not be fair to those already in the line, it hasn’t actually lengthened their wait time at all. In fact, it has shortened the wait time of those who would have joined the line behind them by 1 car.

By annoying 1 person, therefore, this moron has made a quicker journey for 2 people (1 in the turn lane and one in the through lane that would otherwise be behind them). Therefore, win.

***I would not pull off this move myself, I just like playing devils advocate.
